I will from now on use this thread to post updates to Castle Acain mod instead of starting new threads every time I add something new. I still need to make more monsters and other stuff, but I am getting close to finishing the town. Here are a couple screenshots... Tell me what you think.

This will be the entrance to the "Castle" dungeon. I plan to also have a "Fallen City" dungeon and an "Underworld" dungeon.

hehe indeed, always something to add or change ... I just realise I have some mesh with 2 or 3 texture one on top of the other, and depending on the angle, the trees could be made of stone, so I have to clear this up ( and I guess it'll be nearly ready after ... until I get another idea of something to change )

Well, knock on wood...
For a while the game would crash about 50% of the time when I would load the character I am using as the town's project inspector. I am making it in Fate: TS because I am more familiar with that game and its quirks and also I am superstitious about things like that. When I am finished I will just drop it into TCK and make whatever changes need to be made. But, a couple weeks ago I completely uninstalled and re-installed TS and it has not crashed a single time since then. I think one of my characters was holding an item that was causing some sort of conflict or something. I don't know. Either way, it works very nicely now. I only experienced one problem with it since then, but it was completely Max related. Being the smart guy I am, I save files very very often and in different folders and with different names, so I was able to use one of my backup files to get it going again. It cost me a loss of about 30 minutes total. No big deal at all. Max seems to just crash whenever it feels like it... One more thing I hate about that app. Blender has NEVER crashed on me... Not even one time.
I am close to finishing the town. I still want to make a few of my own NPC models, but they should not take quite as long to make as fully-animated monsters.
One of the most difficult challenges is making the transition between one terrain type to the next. Another challenge is knowing when to STOP ADDING SO MUCH DETAIL!!! I have all KINDS of stuff in this town! I am wondering at what point the game will start to lag due to too many faces. It hasn't so far, and if file size is related to face count, my town is still only about one forth the size of Ekbatan. (That's comparing the SCN files: mine=1.52 MB and Ekbatan=6.59 MB.)
I am happy that most of the stonework is done. That was alot of hard work. Thank God for that crew of Dwarves I hired! :P It's all down hill from here, mostly landscaping and decorating.

See, now that most of the real work is done, it's the little knit-picky stuff that's getting me. I can't decide if these potted fire-berry shrubs are good where they are or if they need to be moved a bit to the right...

Another distraction... I was walking around the outskirts of my new town the other day when I came across this cave. I haven't had time to explore it yet and I have no idea what's inside.

Nahhh!!! You flatter me!
Keep in mind I am only showing you the "good" parts, like they do when showing movie previews. :lol: The rest is still a mess!

Hmmm... I have not had that problem with textures. I always name my materials instead of using the ones Max spits out (Default-01,Default-02, etc.) I don't know if maybe that would prevent the textures being stacked like that or not. Just a thought.
Anyway, I am probably going about this the slowest possible way: making models with Blender, exporting as .obj (Wavefront), UVW Unwrapping in Max, texturing in GIMP, exporting as .3ds from Max, importing it into my Max town scene and scaling, rotating and otherwise tweeking it there, then of course exporting it as .scn and making my poor lil Fate character (his feet must be KILLING him!) run around and look at everything.
I always name everything with a unique name. I doubt that is the problem, but....

seems this happens mostly with object I imported from the main town ( tree canopy, tree walls, etc ) when I try to retexture them after, somehow they seems to keep both :/


I really love the flowers / plant, they are really good looking

Ok. I was not successful with exporting/importing some of the stuff from the original town either with regard to texture since they are all collapsed and the UVW maps are not accessable and there is no way (at least none of which I am aware) to uncollapse the materials. I was smart enough to keep all the water stuff and one tree, but I later had to make my own shrub model since I couldn't use the one from the original town without the textures being whack.
Anyway, this thread is becoming a dual topic.

Thanks, Zebby. You're a sport. I came close to having our omnipresent moderator Spock split this topic. But I see that won't be necessary.

Well, you know the old saying, "Quality takes time". So, I should be done really fast! :P
No. Actually it will be a couple more months. And I may just make it for Fate: TS since it appears that some people are having problems with TCK.
