The Tutorial Archive, maintained by Buggs, now has a permanent equivalent on our Fate Archives web site, alongside JR's Mod Archive.

Hopefully, this will provide some additional organization, make it easier to use, and give author's permanent links to offer file downloads.

Submissions will remain the same: as Buggs adds things to the forum archive, I will add them to the web site archive, updates and fixes may be PM'ed to me directly.

A special thanks to BuggsBunny964 for keeping the tutorial threads alive and updated, to Theminifigmaster for some ingenious help with the artwork, and to all our authors without whom... let's face it... we'd have nothing but a lot of empty pages.

To the URL then, please enjoy!

Tutorial Archive

~ Sorry about the double posting, getting the word out is kind'a important to me. ~

Great job surdin! I'd like to see my coding tutorial in there sometime, but whenever you get to it is great. It looks awesome, and I'm glad it's available for us all now!

Very nice website. Consider it stickied

I just downloaded the 3ds max program and went to the mod archive link to try to find out how to make things and then make them work in the game, but when I open it, there is an error message saying it is an 'invalid link.' I get this same message when I try to open that tutorial from the tutorial archive. Any suggestions on how to get this tutorial?

Thanks for your help.

The first link in the main message points to a nonexistent thread. This may be confusing some users. The second link at the end of the message is the one you want to use.

Should be fixed, thanks!

Hmmm, counting the link in your sig there are three links in the main message to the tutorial archive. The very first one still points to a nonexistent thread, or at least it does for me. Sorry to be a pest, but it confused me for a while when I first started looking for the tutorial.

Oh, that thread is obsolete, I guess... replaced by this one, apparently... so it shouldn't be a link at all anymore... on the bright side, I fixed the link on the main page of the web site... thinking that was what you meant... so it's all good, I guess.

Great!

Thanks,

I've had Fate on my computer for several months now, but the Mod Manager can't find it. At all.

Any ideas?

Are you getting the option to browse to find your game folder? It should be asking, if it can't find it on it's own.

Alternately, there should be a file called "fatedir.dat" in the mod manager folder... it's a text file that contains the path to the game files... you can edit it directly... or even create it, if it's not present.

or you can edit the adress at the bottem of the modmanager window.

Thanks for the site! I used to do some moding in JO, JA, and Kotor. I've forever wanted to mod Fate, but the only thing I could do was some stupid reskins and a few file reprogrammings. I'm seeing a whole new window of opportunities now. Can't wait to download everything. (does anybody have a copy of 3ds max that they want to donate to me? lol!) I don't even have gmax anymore!

Mr.Elusive
are there any mdl conversion tools available for newer versions of max? Ive got 2008 but the notion of downloading v7 trial just to run one plugin seems kinda ridiculous. Unfortunately for my sake, .dle files are no longer valid max plugins for 2008 and so each time it tries to load up it obviously doesn't work (throws up an error telling u its not for this version of max.. duh). So are there any mod tools plugins for newer versions of max?
maestro
no. the game designer himself said 5,6 or 7. but I think one person got the 7 to work on 8.

@ Maestro + Mr. Elusive:
I have 3ds max9. I managed to play around with the plugins. Out of all the FATE plugins, i only got one to work, it was the animation converter. which i dont need. .AMS
After i keep playing some more, they got corrupt.

@ Main Topic:
Well as i have repeatively said for a year now. Lets give the archives a Heiarchy of members. Meaning, Admins, Moderators and regular users.

Admins can access the control panel of the website to fully customize. Approve Tutorials, Mods, news broadcasts etc.
Moderators gain access to some of the admin features such as post news, add a review for a mod, approve mod posts, deny with an explanation etc
Regular Members can access the website by loging in and submiting a mod. They can edit their mod and post comments on other mod posts.
Contributors are members who help test and make sure all mods work. [Note: This is the task for everyone but Testing should be the Contributors TOP Priority]
