Full Version: Involuntary Inventory (un)sort

I am having a lot of fun playing Fate. It's a great game but nothing is perfect. I understand the developers appreciate constructive feedback so please take my critiques in the constructive manner they are intended. I think the sort bug is the second most annoying issue I've encountered in Fate. Since I've been stashing a variety of things in my treasure chest, I got to a point where I wanted to arrange them in a certain way. Without going into great detail, the bug I've encountered here is that the game occasionally decides to unsort my sorted items. And no, I have not hit the sort button at the bottom of the inventory page. I don't know what triggers this but it definitely is not user error. The funny thing is that, when this involuntary sort takes place, there is no logical explanation for the arrangement of the "sort." It's does not group like items together. In fact it takes previously sorted items, rearranges them in an apparently random order and shoves them to the left side of the inventory screen. Then, I have to go in and sort the unsorted items again. Very annoying.

If I am putting a bug report in the wrong place, please let me know. This is a bug that I hope WT will address. My suggestion is take out the sort capability altogether and let the players decide how they want to arrange their inventories. TIA for any guidance.

This seems to be an appropriate place for your post, so no need to worry about placement.

As far as the sort algorithm, I would imagine it simply places the largest items first and packs the smaller around them to free up as much contiguous space as possible.

As to why, no idea. I would be willing to bet that the original programmer after all this time would have trouble figuring it out. wink.gif

like spock just summarized, the sort is by shape and not by item type.
I think the goal was to free up space so you can carry more items and not to organize them in the storage chest. just don't hit that sort button or else all your gems get unsorted.

Heron, like I said, you don't need to press the sort button for the unsort to take place. To organize them by size or shape is not logical. Anyone is more capable of saving space in a logical fashion than this routine does.

I think the original programmer or anyone in the development team should be able to find the routine and trash it. Without question, that's exactly what should be done. Please convey this unquestionable improvement to WT for me. Thanks.

No need to. They regularly peruse the fora, they just have other responsibilities, so seldom post. They prefer for Community Members or Moderators to attempt to resolve any problems if we can.
