I have Windows 7 installed on my laptop. I have installed the full version of Fate from CD and I am having issues playing the game.
The first time, I was on level 8 and when I changed screens (go further into dungeon), my entire laptop locked up on the game. The only way to get out was to shut down the laptop and restart. When I went back to select my game, it showed a dog only, no character (i had a cat on my game) and level 0 showing UNKNOWN for name. When trying to start that game, it would error out and close out game.
The second time, I was on level 43 and it just did the same thing.
Is there an update for Windows 7? Is there a way to get my game back? The first time was annoying, the second time when I was on level 43 really ticked me off.
Any assistance would be appreciated.

I doubt your problem is Windows nearly as much as it's the game itself. I've had corrupt files several times now from playing games here and I've never played Fate. I also have a pretty new, very expensive gaming computer but it's a common problem for me with these games.

I have had this game for over a year and played it on several different computers, constantly. The only time I had an issue with corrupt game is when I played it on the Windows 7 computer.

Unlike the previous few responses posted, I disagree. I have found the same problems with lockups and usually while saving my progress or loading a saved game is when it happened to me. But always while the screen is changing from game to a panel or control screen. I discovered that Windows Vista and Windows 7 have this particular problem with certain video cards and chipsets only when you have the Windows Sidebar and Aero enabled. I have disabled the sidebar and my system quit doing it immediately. I have played Fate and Fate undiscovered realms for many weeks with no more lockups or lost data. When I forget to turn off the sidebar before starting a game the problem reappears... I also had the same symptoms with another Orb/Wildtangent game "Artist Colony" and again it ceased being a problem when I shut down that stupid sidebar. Also make sure you have the proper video drivers for Windows 7 if that's what you run. 64bit if that applies too. Windows will usually run okay with the old vista drivers on a 64bit machine that was upgraded to windows7 64bit from 32 bit version of Vista. the drivers will often work but not for gaming. So if that is the case go hunt down the latest 64bit video drivers and install them, Hope this helps you.
