I WILL NOT be adding post UNLESS I cant edit this one.

Feel free to support my efforts by telling me what you have exp from fate ed; which error etc.

************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just in time (JIT) debugging, the config file for this
application or machine (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.

For example:

<configuration>
<system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
</configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the machine
rather than being handled by this dialog.

Same character, sold everything, toured level1 looking for magic item-failed, ?gold, baught magic ring
save/exit/quit...load fate ed...

Worked

So what was the difference? Steps taken cant be 0 or dungeon level cant be 0? Is it the time? Is it the magic Item itself? I dont know. I will EDIT more when confirmed.

Please clarify which game you are playing. I believe that FateEd will error if you are attempting to edit a Fate TS file while the character is holding any item that has an enchantment. This could be because of the substantial differences between how enchantments on items are saved in Fate and Fate TS.

Ok, you have edited to say that you are using Fate. I don't play the original Fate anymore, however, I believe that I have one of the newer versions. I have just checked and have no problem editing any of the characters in FateEd. From reviewing your post, it seems that you attempted to edit a character that was created before he ever entered the dungeon. It is entirely possible that TechnoCat defined certain aspects of the file to require positive numbers. Although I have tested a number of possible theories and none work. I have recreated your error and agree that it occurs. It does not matter if you take steps, if you do not do something that will cause the system to create a dungeon, FateEd will believe that there is a problem with the file. The normal save file begins with basic character information. Next come the inventory items with their various properties. After that comes the Quest information, including the Realm Quest from Bremen, after that comes a portion of the save file that contains information on the dungeon levels, finally ending with the pet and storage trunk. After having confirmed your errors, I look a look at a new save file. There is no information regarding the dungeon. However, that doesn't explain everything, as the error that you have described does not occur if you accept a Quest but still do not enter the dungeon. In that case, there still is no information regarding the dungeon, but the additional Quest information is stored.

My final analysis is that the program expects a minimum length to the save file. A blank character does not have that minimum length, however, a character with a Quest has just enough additional information to satisfy the minimum expected by FateEd. Ultimately, if anyone faces this particular problem, either enter and leave the dungeon before attempting to use FateEd, or accept a Quest from the one of people in the town. I am certain that TechnoCat never tested his program on a blank character.

Additionally, FateEd cannot add enchantments, it can only edit an enchantment that already exists. If the item is not magical, FateEd cannot make it magical, only Rikko can do that.
