From the Fate FAQ:

QUOTE
Q.) Where are my saved games located?

A.) This depends on your operating system:

XP: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\WildTangent\fate\Persistent\SAVE

Vista: C:\ProgramData\WildTangent\fate\Persistent\SAVE

The easiest way to get to this folder is by pressing the key combination WINDOWS+R to bring up the run menu, and then pasting the pertinent (Vista or XP) address into the box, then hitting OK. If you do it this way, you can get to the folder even if your computer is set to hide hidden files and system folders – just make sure you type in the address exactly!

I will eventually modify the question to contain information about all 3 games but, for now, just replace fate with the name of the game you are interested in and it should work ... it does for me.

I don't really recall Heron doing much in the way of altering the save file. From my recollection he is more into Modding. You must be very careful editing the save file. My recommendation is to always make a back-up before making the changes. I've made an extensive study of the save file, particularly with respect to the storage of items. I think the only person who might understand the save file better is TechnoCat (author or FateEd), but he hasn't been on in a long time.

What are you attempting to modify? I really do not recommend erasing anything from the save file, unless you know exactly what you are doing. I would not even attempt to erase an enchantment from an item (and I studied enchantments in depth). If I had an enchantment on an item that I did not like, I would change the enchantment to something else rather than attempting to remove the enchantment entirely.

I am going to assume that you are viewing the file in a hex editor. A text editor simply will not display all of the hidden characters.

what has happened is that i got arenas of fate, used it for about 15 minuets, and then it crashed. I get rid of arenas. Problem is, i still had items from arenas on my fav. character. So, i can't use the character, and arenas will not load at all. I've already accesed the files using notepad, and it does allow me to edit them. I tried getting rid of the files, but i messed it up, and i ended up deleting the files. I guess the problem is gone, i just need to know how to prevent\fix it in the future.

I cannot guarantee anything and would highly recommend you use a copy of your character to test but you might try one or more of these Character Editors ...
