Get an error "Windows has encountered a problem".....

This game was cheap, like $19.99 at Walmart and came with Fate "Undiscovered Realms". Both do the same thing, same exact error.

My pc is a Quad Core Q9300, 4 gigs of DDR, GF 9800GTX. Vista 64 is the OS.

Sacred 2, Mass Effect have no problems running on this 18 month old pc.

Here's the exact error:

Window pops up that says:

"A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."

Nobody has notified me of anything.....Not a happy camper, might call my credit card company and notify them.

Have bought over 50 pc games in my life, never had a problem like this.

well don't bother with the credit card company. It is probably a simple fix you are just missing.

Usually Fate comes preinstalled on a lot of PCs, try removing the original version and install it from there. I know a bunch of people that had that problem. Search your computer for FATE and see if there is a preinstalled version first.

Otherwise, i would send an email to Support (or just click on the help tab up top. More times than not it is an easy fix, so shoot them an email and see if you can get it fixed quick.

Thanks for the reply. Fate was not on this pc though, I bought the parts and assembled it myself in spring 2008.

I've been trying everything I can think of to no avail.

the disc reads:

Windows
16120-CD v 1.0 ----> to the right of this is a tiny square with an "S" inside it.

Looks like I have a faulty disc, possibly.

If you do, that's also a simple solution, go back to Walmart and exchange it for another. Please try contacting Support first though, it may be something other than the disk.

Did contact support and also linked them to this thread. The game acts like it wants to run, my screen goes jet black for maybe 20 seconds until the same error pops up.

I made an exception in my Firewall FOR Fate, allowing it not to be blocked. Its not my video drivers (they are updated), or my firewall.

This is weird, glad I only wasted 20 bucks.

I run vista 64 ultimate without a problem.

some test to run;

-try using that disc on another pc/laptop. (just to see if the disc is faulty)

-try running the game in window mode. (edit the option.txt)

-install the disc then download the latest .422 version online.

-change compatibility mode to windows xp sp2.

let us know if any of those things helped ..

No other pc in the house. Will try window mode.

.422 version of F.U.R. ? or Fate? Both of these games are on one disc.

How do I change the compatibility mode to Xp sp2 on Vista 64 Home premium?

(Have tried UAC on + off, uninstalling game + reinstalling game, tried a second DVD/CD drive, tried with Admin privileges as Standard User, also as Administrator with my password).

.422 is only for fate UR

right-click on the fate shortcut > a drop down menu > select run as >

also check the shortcut icon .. make sure it points to the correct fate.exe

Tried RUN AS ADMIN by right clicking on the Executable within the games files----> Fate-WT.exe (SAME RESULT)

As a side note Windows Reporting sent info to Microshaft, doubt I'll get any reply there. LOL.

Thanks for bearing with me.

I wasn't expecting great graphics or anything but the idea of randomly generated enemies in dungeons and no real level cap on the character appealed to me. I've never spent 4+ solid hours trying to get a game to work.

But thanks for your input...about ready to fire up some Sacred 2 and chalk this experience up to BAD FATE.

i actually had more problems playing sacred 2 with the latest 2.43 update than any game in history.

check the tech support forum of sacred 2 then compare it to our tech forum, lol.

as a last resort, try running the fate demo and see what happens.
if you can run the demo without a hitch then the culprit might be the physical cd.

2.43 patch is a no no for sacred 2 unless you are running a GF GTX 295 or at least something almost comparable, for a gpu.

That patch, I believe, is forcing your vid card (gpu) to Run Phys X. Great gfx at the expense of stability and incredibly bad framerates.

I won't install that patch on sacred 2.

The only .422 patches (FATE) I'm finding are on shady websites, warez, or pay to dl a freaking patch sites.

.422 is the actual game not really a patch.
you get it from our official website.

you install the retail cd then download the full game .422 from here and that is it.

good luck.

about the sacred 2 patch .. if you want to play online you need to patch it to 2.43 unless you play single only.

try this;

go to shortcut and check those boxes.

Did 2 of those before trading the game in. The disable scaling on high DPI settings I never tried, but my 22" LG widescreen LCD is gorgeous and new anyways. Would have hated to.
