What I am about to share with you Tradewinds fans may shock you...I only just started playing Trandwinds (Classic) and Tradewinds 2 last weekend. Prior to that, I had no idea Tradewinds series existed (but now I LOOOVE it!) Of the 2 Tradewinds games I have played so far, I think I like the classic one better than TW2. Number one, the classic version, you can have up to 25 ships and the battles with the pirates are more challenging. Number two, the price of goods are more unpredictable than they are on TW2.
Now, I played the story version on Tradewinds 2 because I thought that being given tasks would be fun. And I admit, I had a lot of tasks going at once, then suddenly, none of the governors wanted to give me a job. They kept telling me to come back in 2 weeks or next month and they would have something for me, but they never would. (Can you say, giving me the runaround? LOL!) This was also around the time I could afford my upgrade to a briganitte (sp?) ship, when they all ceased giving me jobs. I went to the alehouses and got tips, some of which said that I was only allowed to do one task at a time. Yet a couple of times, they said that I could do more than one task at a time as long as I was in good with the governor/s. But I was in good enough for them to give me the tasks, right? I wasn't allowed to own more than one ship and also, I never had to fight more than 3 pirates at a time. It got kinda old kicking their butts all the time, ya know what I mean?
So, I guess my question for any/all of you Tradewinds novices is, did I totally erm..."DARN my character's whole career with the governors" by taking on so many tasks in the beginning, or did my game have some sort of glitch in it? Why aren't we allowed to have more than ship in story mode? I didn't **hate** Tradewinds 2; it was interesting enough to keep me going all night, but I kept sensing that the game had so much more to offer than what I was getting. Any thoughts/suggestions, folks?

There should eventually come more than just 3 ships against you.
At least to me the number of ships just kept growing and growing and never stopped.
It went so that first comes lousyu ship, then comes bit better ship, then maybe two lousy ships, then next ones bit better aother one lousy and so forth. Exception with the pirates on tasks that were to be captured.
Tasks shoudltn end either. I mean, they do eventually end, but it will also tell you that you completed the game then.
Thats the idea of the story mode that you follow the tasks till the whole story is filled and then its completed.
You should also get to attack against some of the towns at some points for whatever reasons.
If i correctly remember you have some sort of log book or something. Click that, and you should see all your tasks and the status on them at that point.
There might read something like "search taverns for havanna governors son".
That way you can see if there is maybe some task you havent completed yet that you arent aware of.
If there is no log entries there about tasks not even "hunt 10 pirate ships and return to havanna" type of thing, then go to each town, eet the governor, if none of them gie you any task, and if none of them even say "come back after 1 month" then i guess some bug have occured in your game.
Although one slight chance i give that if youve been buying those items, then maybe one of the items is cursed and says something like "cant receive any tasks".
But you should see that from "Items" list then.
I dont think there is such item existing, but of course there always can be anyway.
OIther than that, im running out of ideas.
Hard to say which one is better, Tradewinds 1 or 2, both very good and different enugh to enjoy them both. But if you start with Tradewinds 2, then the first one seems bit simple since theres so much more stuff in 2.

I did check the log book and there were no pending tasks. To the best of my knowledge, none of my items had any curses...interesting theory, though. I think you're right though, about the bug theory.
To be perfectly honest, the sort of experience I had with Tradewinds 2, between no longer having any tasks and not being allowed to have more than one ship, Tradewinds classic gets my vote...I only wish we were allowed to have more than 25 ships on Tradewinds classic, just because it's so unfair when battling pirates that at times have as many as 106 ships! You know what I mean? At least, I'm assuming that's the number, considering how once I got to 25 ships, the 3 shipyards ceased trying to sell me more, and believe me, I went back and forth **several** times. Then, I lost a ship and all 3 suddenly had ships for sell again.
Now, I did recently play Tradewinds Caravans, and absolutely loved it, because of the story mode that never ended and it actually tells you the maximum amount of animals and soldiers you are allowed to have without making you guess. Unfortunately, an hour into the game, some error occurred on my PC and ended my session. Bummer!
