I made a darkness sword for the game but it doesn't look like it should in the game.

That's how it looks

and it should look like this

I found that if I delete one of the quillons solves part of the problem.

PLEASE HELP ME! sad.gif
Dreyan
Woah. Took me a while to figure out what the problem was. It actually looks like the famous Spore error. I think I could help. I've never actually done anything like that, but I'm sure I could if I had the file in .3ds, .obj, or .u3d format. I'm new to this forum, could I actually download it if you had it attached to a post?

Or you can just listen to pointers from other people.

EDIT: Oh yeah, I got a better idea. Delete the one you deleted and copy the other one into that spot.

I already tried to do this but it doesn't work.
Well, not like I would

Here is the .obj file (.3ds files don't keep all the geometry)
darkswd.obj

Hope you'll fix it because I have no idea how to do it.
Dreyan
I downloaded it and tried opening in Anim8or, which is compatinle with the .obj format, but apparently Anim8or was confused by that error, because it didn't open.

What exactly would you lose in .3ds format?
heron
that sword has 148,258 poly .. it's ridiculous

It doesn't export because it has too many faces for the .3ds format

yeah well I made it using a tutorial... there wasn't a limit for the poly number and I don't know how to make it look good with a very low number of poly
But it works perfectly in the game.
heron
that number is way too high for a weapon.
weapon should be around 300 or less.

on low end pc, it's going to slow down or crash the game.
tutorial normally teach you how to make a low poly model not high poly. especially in a gaming environment.
that is also the reason for the mesh being distorted, the game engine cannot exceed that number.
in addition, making a model look good will depend on the image applied to it.
the texture will do all the detail work so the actual model doesnt have to work as hard.
optimization is the key to performance.

im surprised the fate viewer didnt crash.

I guess I can't reduce the faces and I must remake the sword from scratch.. right?

What's the maximum number of faces that the game allows?
Dreyan
You don't have to restart! Just merge the faces in groups, in some places it won't show up (like on the flat of the blade). Heron says to get to 300.

ROFL!!!
That's like a whole dungeon worth of polys.
(My game lags if there are too many frost or lightning beetles on the screen. Too many particles...)
Sweet blade design BTW!!!
(I so totally have to learn how to model...sigh...)

Thanks, I'll try to reduce the faces how much I can but 300 is a very very low number.

Try the tutorials from 3ds max website to learn how to model. You'll see that it's not so hard.

EDIT: I reached 24882 and it starts looking bad now

it's alright if I let it like this?
Jonathan
uh, dude, that is totally awesome. you could make it half that good and unless you were zoomed all the way in in the game, you wouldn't notice. even zoomed in I don't think anyone would notice. that sword is awesome.
k1ddy
I left it with 14000 poly. If I reduce it more, looks horrible.

Darkness Sword
It's for Fate Original because I have no idea how to convert it for F:UR.

I already began another sword without a tutorial
at least now I know how to make it low poly...
Jonathan
wow. that sword is incredible. I converted it to F:UR format. I will post a link to it later today. I can't see that sword looking horrible no matter how far down you go with the poly count. I would say still go down a little. that sword looks incredible, I think it would slow the game down quite a bit, although I haven't tested it yet.
nice job. I think we can expect big things from you. just look around, read some stickies, and soon you will be one of the remembered modders for years to come.

thanks man, I'll try to do my best rolleyes.gif
I'm not really new here
I was playing Fate and reading this forum from December 2008 but I didn't knew anything about modding at that time

please post the link from the F:UR version of the mod and if you can, tell me how did you convert it

I forgot to say something about this mod: it has an easter egg... try the artifact of the sword wink.gif
Tell me if your game is working slowly with this mod because my PC is powerful and I can't see if it's working slowly
Jonathan
http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?ujm0dziyjjz
there is the download.
to convert it to F:UR, go into the items folder. make a folder in there called en-us.
drop the items.dat into that folder.
everywhere in the items.dat file where it references the folder MODS, make it reference REALMS instead.
for example.
this:
[ITEM]
<TYPE>:SWORD
<NAME>:Darkness Sword
<RARITY>:550
<MINIMUM_DEPTH>:30
<PURCHASEABLE>:1
<MODEL>:MODS/Darkness Sword/ITEMS\darkswd.mdl
<COLLIDEABLE>:0
<ICON>:MODS/Darkness Sword/ICONS/darkswd.png:MODS/Darkness Sword/ICONS/darkswda.png:96:192
<VALUE>:100000
<TAKEABLE>:1
<DAMAGE>:140:230
<ATTACK_RADIUS>:15
<STRIKE_RADIUS>:17.5
<SPEED>:FASTEST
<TAKE_SOUND>:SOUNDS/ITEMS/swordget.wav
<DROP_SOUND>:SOUNDS/ITEMS/fall.wav
<LAND_SOUND>:SOUNDS/ITEMS/sworddrop.wav
<STRIKE_SOUND>:SOUNDS/BATTLE/metalflesh1.wav
<STRIKE_SOUND>:SOUNDS/BATTLE/metalflesh2.wav
<STRIKE_SOUND>:SOUNDS/BATTLE/metalflesh3.wav
<ATTACK_SOUND>:SOUNDS/BATTLE/swordswing.wav
<MERCHANT_MINIMUM>:20
<REQUIRES>:STRENGTH:100
<REQUIRES>:MAGIC:50
<DAMAGE_BONUS>:ELECTRIC:30
to this:
[ITEM]
<TYPE>:SWORD
<NAME>:Darkness Sword
<RARITY>:550
<MINIMUM_DEPTH>:30
<PURCHASEABLE>:1
<MODEL>:REALMS/Darkness Sword/ITEMS/darkswd.mdl
<COLLIDEABLE>:0
<ICON>:REALMS/Darkness Sword/ICONS/darkswd.png:REALMS/Darkness Sword/ICONS/darkswda.png:96:192
<VALUE>:100000
<TAKEABLE>:1
<DAMAGE>:140:230
<ATTACK_RADIUS>:15
<STRIKE_RADIUS>:17.5
<SPEED>:FASTEST
<TAKE_SOUND>:SOUNDS/ITEMS/swordget.wav
<DROP_SOUND>:SOUNDS/ITEMS/fall.wav
<LAND_SOUND>:SOUNDS/ITEMS/sworddrop.wav
<STRIKE_SOUND>:SOUNDS/BATTLE/metalflesh1.wav
<STRIKE_SOUND>:SOUNDS/BATTLE/metalflesh2.wav

<ATTACK_SOUND>:SOUNDS/BATTLE/swordswing.wav
<MERCHANT_MINIMUM>:20
<REQUIRES>:STRENGTH:100
<REQUIRES>:MAGIC:50
<DAMAGE_BONUS>:ELECTRIC:30
and that should do it. same thing applies to monsters.
k1ddy
thanks for all your help
I posted the mod in Completed Mods for both versions of the game
I already started a new mod and hope to finish it this week tongue.gif

I tried a manual install again, it broke again. Why does that keep happening? Perhaps it's because I'm using a pre-orb version. Well, partly.

Even if I can't cheat it up, it would be sweet to get a hold of one anyway.

I don't know why is this happening to you. It's working perfectly for me and it is modman compatible, you don't have to install it manually
anyway, what's a pre-orb version?

ModMan does not work with newer versions of FATE.

That means before this "WildTangent Orb" nonsense. The version I had/have runs independently, and it isn't compatible with the mod manager, at least not the demo version. If I can upgrade I'll try playing your mod again, because I don' feel like paying for orb coins on the newer version.

On second thought, I reread Spock's post.
k1ddy
I suggest you to get the 1.21 version and an unlock code because there are no mods for newer versions (1.23, 1.23a, 1.23b)
