Hey spotter, sorry to hear that. That always sucks.
But you sound like an intelligent, resourceful person and those kind of people always find a way to continue on and succeed. You're just hitting a rough patch.

Sorry Storm, it's happening here too in Indiana. The General Electric plant is closing down. I have several friends there. I feel for everyone that is going through this. Best of luck to you!

Lol. I suppose if you've spent your life chasing tornados you wouldn't be afraid of a few suicide bombers.

Yeah IEDs I am more worried about than Suicide Bombers because if I saw someone suspicious running at me, I'd instantly blow them away...either me or them ya know! But an IED is hidden and all...:-|
I can't make up my mind. I was offered a small town police officer position but I know everyone there and it would suck having to cite or arrest someone you know

Didn't know you were a cop.
That small town job actually sounds kind of dreary to me. You would probably be doing a lot of nothing. Cop shows on TV always make the job look so exciting, but then I see these poor guys doing some road construction detail, sometimes standing around all day long in the most miserable weather.
It's a good thing I'm not a cop because if I had to do that I'd probably shoot myself.

I am not a cop yet
My career is in a security contractor area plus I do private investigation work on the side for extra cash...mostly just spying of cheating husbands and watching people cheat workerscomp...nothing really exciting...but i usually pack heat with me

I like target shooting myself but I don't have a license to carry. Just never felt a need for it, and they make it ridiculously difficult in Massachusetts. You've got to score something like a 290 before the State Police even consider your application.
But my favorite so far is just an old Police Special 38 that my uncle gave me when he retired - he was on the force in Seattle. I love that little gun - sometimes I go to the range and waste 100 rounds shooting at the little piece of paper (and I don't even bother to calculate the score).

Over hear they want you to have 4 years of college for State Police, even those who have experience from Military have to have 4 years, its ridiculous IMO but what can ya do?

Well life went into a whole different direction for me

First of all, I went to a different security firm but then got sick of the crap pay. Now I am a coal miner and I get paid over $2000.00 a month with is AWESOME in my area. Plus I have 401k, life insurance and free medical, dental and vision. My mines even takes us on paid trips to places like Holiday World and the opreland restort in TN which I just got back from.
I got a mobile home being fixed up and i will be out in the country which is GREAT! I also got me a 4x4 dodge pickup truck which has made me feel young again as I mud in it. I'm going on a date tomorrow after 1 year of being single, wish me luck!!!
Well thats it for now... just wanted to say hello again...
Bigler: Sorry for the post under my post LOL

Glad that things went your way, Storm Spotter.
The economy hit me in April...laid off a few months after my 10th anniversary at the company. So long to a very good paying job with lots of benefits, hello to uncertainty and stress. There are very few spots open in my field now and a LOT of people competing for them.
I can't complain too much, because we have a big cushion to let us ride this out...but, I'd still prefer to have my old life back.

I just lost my dream job of teaching Adult Computer Literacy after teaching for 7 years. I was also working part time for our Census Bureau but that came to a sudden halt today when the work dried up.
I too don't know what will happen next. All I can do is keep reminding myself that I was looking for a job when I found the last one. I also have a cushion of sorts but it's mostly eaten up with minor things like Mortgage, Insurance, and Utilities. Minor things like food, clothing, etc will have to come from some other source.
